Tactical use & trade-offs
Moves the opponent across the front court and can win outright. It travels further and stays in the air longer, so it can be intercepted if the opponent reads it.
Technique
| Grip | Forehand grip: shake hands with the handle, the V between thumb and index finger on the top-left bevel, fingers relaxed and slightly spread. / Backhand grip: from the forehand grip, turn slightly and place the pad of the thumb flat on the wide back bevel (thumb grip). Relaxed until contact. |
|---|---|
| Preparation | Arrive early, racket up, body balanced in the lunge. |
| Contact point | High, near the tape. |
| Racket face | Angled toward the far corner, brushing across the shuttle. |
| Swing | Small push-and-slice across the shuttle toward the far front corner. |
| Body & footwork | Stable lunge. |
| Follow-through | Minimal; recover toward the centre to cover the straight reply. |
