Tactical use & trade-offs
A tumbling shuttle is hard to play until it rights itself, often forcing a weak lift. Needs early, high contact; slicing a low shuttle often ends in the net.
Technique
| Grip | Forehand grip: shake hands with the handle, the V between thumb and index finger on the top-left bevel, fingers relaxed and slightly spread. / Backhand grip: from the forehand grip, turn slightly and place the pad of the thumb flat on the wide back bevel (thumb grip). Relaxed until contact. |
|---|---|
| Preparation | Arrive early with the racket up and slightly to the side of the shuttle. |
| Contact point | High, near the tape, the racket brushing across the cork. |
| Racket face | Open, moving sideways across the base of the shuttle. |
| Swing | A short slicing brush across (left-to-right or right-to-left) with fingers. |
| Body & footwork | Stable lunge, upright trunk. |
| Follow-through | Very small; stay ready for a net reply. |
