Tactical use & trade-offs

A tumbling shuttle is hard to play until it rights itself, often forcing a weak lift. Needs early, high contact; slicing a low shuttle often ends in the net.

Technique

GripForehand grip: shake hands with the handle, the V between thumb and index finger on the top-left bevel, fingers relaxed and slightly spread. / Backhand grip: from the forehand grip, turn slightly and place the pad of the thumb flat on the wide back bevel (thumb grip). Relaxed until contact.
PreparationArrive early with the racket up and slightly to the side of the shuttle.
Contact pointHigh, near the tape, the racket brushing across the cork.
Racket faceOpen, moving sideways across the base of the shuttle.
SwingA short slicing brush across (left-to-right or right-to-left) with fingers.
Body & footworkStable lunge, upright trunk.
Follow-throughVery small; stay ready for a net reply.
