Shuttle pick-up footwork
Moving shuttles between base and the corners makes footwork a goal-directed task. Kids love it, and lunging to reach the floor trains depth.

Starting position
Place one shuttle in each of six corners (or four for younger children). Player at base.
Movement sequence
- Lunge to a corner and pick up the shuttle (racket foot forward at the front).
- Carry it back and place it at base.
- Then return each shuttle to a different corner.
- Optional: time the set; record your time in Progress.
Recovery
Back to base with each shuttle.
Technique cues
- Lunge, don't bend over
- Racket foot leads
Common mistakes
- Bending the back instead of lunging
- Rushing into falls
Easier
Four corners, walking pace.
Harder
Race the clock, or a partner calls the order.
Safety
- Shuttles on the floor: watch footing; never step on them.
- Stop if you feel sharp pain, dizziness, chest pain or unusual breathlessness.
